Transportation
SAI's experience in the field of transportation extends from major highways to rural back roads, major bridges to narrow stream crossings and everything in-between.
SAI is particularly pleased to work with Mabey Bridge & Shore, the world's leading supplier of temporary bridges and shoring systems. We review the design of every installation from New Jersey to Maine. The first assignment came in 1995 and over the years we have contributed to their success with our prompt and personal attention to projects. A Mabey Bridge structure was used in the design/build project known as the Vesey Street footbridge at the World Trade center site in Manhattan and SAI was also the engineer on this exciting project. The ribbon cutting took place in December 2004!
Another Maybe bridge design with which we are currently involved is the Whitestone Bridge in New York. On both the World Trade Center footbridge and the Whitestone Bridge our involvement is way beyond review - it is design-build on challenging, strategic projects where time and money are of the utmost importance. We are also reviewing all the Mabey Bridges for the 'Big Dig' in Boston and the new traffic circulation project at JFK Airport.
Other large bridge projects currently under construction are the Barrington and Warren Bridges in Rhode Island.
In addition to designing bridges and reviewing designs of same we design roads for the Department of Transportation and local Municipalities. In these cost conscious times we find that reconstruction, rehabilitation and repairs of transportation projects are taking precedence over new construction - especially at the local level. As a medium sized company, we are perfectly positioned to handle repairs as well as new construction as our project engineers and the field inspectors stay with the project from inception - following through from design to completion.
Marine Design
Maybe its because we are based in the Ocean State or maybe its because we, as a nation, are finally realizing the importance of our great marine resources but we at SAI are currently undertaking a lot of rehabilitation work on piers, wharfs and bulkheads. These projects can be challenging not only because of the surge of the sea but because of the growing legislation which entails extensive paperwork and permitting. We are happy to say, however, that we are currently working on three waterfront projects which are moving along smoothly and successfully. Over the years we have designed several marinas both in the North East and in the Caribbean.
